DEEPER LIFE OPENS 30000-SEATER HEADQUARTERS
History was made on the 24th
of April when one of the largest church auditoria was opened in Nigeria by the
Deeper Life Bible Church.
Members of the church worldwide connected as one to
celebrate the occasion which was also witnessed by many religious and political
leaders in Nigeria.
The multi-billion Naira edifice, which was conceived
and constructed by members of the church, took 13 years to complete. Its
remarkable world-class features make it a piece of architectural masterpiece. The
30,000 four-level amphitheatre comes with central air-conditioning units, chiller
farm and air-handing units. There are also modern toilet facilities connected
to a Central Sewage System, standby generators and panel rooms. The church is
linked to a 7.5 MVA dedicated public power and 2.5 MVA transformers. The
auditorium also has a fire hydrant and hose reels, office facilities on five
floors, six and 12-passenger elevators, among others. And right within the compound is a multi-purpose
hall, water treatment plant, modern sewage treatment plant, two industrial
boreholes and firefighting equipment.
A multi-million naira flyover which occupied the
entire length of Oduwaiye Street, complete with traffic lights is also
constructed to allay the fears of residents.
While speaking at the inauguration, Pastor Kumuyi said
the edifice was to make worshippers comfortable in the presence of God. The
pastor, who was flanked at the event by his wife, Esther, and the Vice
President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, urged religious leaders to also
commit to impacting their environment.
The preacher, who is known for holiness preaching
said, “About 13 years ago, we knew that we were taking a leap of faith, but we
trusted the Lord that he would not only provide all we needed, but also direct
the project to a successful conclusion. And today, we have even surpassed our
expectation. We embarked on the additional projects because we are convinced
that the task of developing and modernizing of our society cannot be left to
the government alone. Individuals, non-governmental organizations and even
corporate organizations, including religious groups, should be involved, as
much as they can, in the spiritual, as well as physical uplift of our state and
country.
“Religious organizations must go beyond this
approach. We must intensify the task of preaching and spreading the Word all
over our nation; we must tirelessly pursue the goal of changing lives for Jesus
Christ. We must make our places of worship the gates of heaven on earth, where
those thirsty for God and those who are seeking a deeper experience in life can
find solace, be reconciled to God and be assured of a place in heaven when life
on earth comes to an end.”
The revered cleric added further, “The project is not, in any way, an advertisement of self or riches. It is served to accelerate the earnest fulfillment of the Great Commission. There are no riches to advertise anyway because the resources came from all strata of membership of the church. Everyone contributed his or her mite. It was a determination to give God the very best.
“When you read through the scriptures, you find that tabernacles were huge edifices that evoked the aura of the Almighty. When you read about the nature of the building that King Solomon built for God, it was magnificent and befitting of worship of the Owner of the whole universe.
“We in Deeper Life Bible Church believe in preaching the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and we hope that the new building will attract people who ordinarily may not think of coming to hear the Word of God. And the Bible tells us that one soul is greater in value than all the riches of the world put together. So then, if by putting up the building, a soul is saved from the fury of hell fire, we would have achieved God’s goal.”
The
vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who was present at the occasion, lauded
the Deeper Life church for its investment in a flyover and streetlights to ease
traffic in the neighbourhood. He said the edifice is the fourth largest
auditorium in the world. He described Kumuyi, as “a man of uncommon humility
and commitment to the spread of the undiluted gospel of Jesus Christ with
candour and integrity.” He lamented that religious
intolerance remained a major challenge against the country’s socio-economic
revival.
He said that the Federal Government
is doing everything to stop the increasing persecution of Christians in parts
of the country including their being prevented from erecting places of worship
and promised that President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government would do
everything within the ambits of the law to ensure the rights of all Nigerians
were preserved as enshrined in the nation’s Constitution.
He assured
that the President had mandated him to intervene in areas facing such
challenges to achieve peaceful co-existence among all section of the country.
He said, “The persecution of Christians
is on the rise. The devil is hard at work, stoking religious tension. I call on
all Christians not to be broken, even as government is working hard to prevent
such occurrences and protect the lives and property of every citizen”. The VP congratulated the General
Superintendent of the Church, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi and members of
the denomination for the vision and execution of the edifice and called on them
to sustain the message of undiluted Gospel of Christ the Church had been known
for while also ensuring that the Temple of Christ, which it has built, was also
built in people’s hearts.
“This is one of the proud moments
for me as a Christian, being alive and here seeing this beautiful edifice built
solely for the propagation of the Gospel of Christ. I am proud of what has been
achieved here, the amenities, the information technology (IT) architecture and
ambience. It is my prayer that, with the way
this Church has been growing, the coming Glory will be greater than the its
past,” the Vice President added.
He also expressed confidence that
the ultra-modern headquarters would provide greater motivation and inspiration
to preach the word of God with greater fervor.
